IT’S nice to know that my simple kampung + Kuching city palate has something in common with internationally known chef, author and television presenter Anthony Bourdain.

Yes we both love Sarawak Laksa, or as he calls it Kuching Laksa.

There’s nothing quite like starting the day with this amazing bowl of spicy and rich savoury goodness.

The photo above, which he tweeted just before Gawai said simply “Yessssssss…. “.

On Instagram, Bourdain went a step further calling my favourite early morning treat: “Breakfast of the Gods.”

Too right bro.

On Instagram his post received over 1,500 comments and 42k likes.

His Tweet? Retweeted nearly 1,000 times. Favourited by over 1,800.

This was of course by his followers throughout the globe. He has over 2.1 million followers on Twitter and 670k on Instagram.

On Facebook the Kuching Laksa post was shared over 2,000 times and liked by 48k. His FB page has over 800k likes so lots more saw it.

Not bad for our street food dish eh? Imagine how much publicity this wonderful dish has given to our great State!

Just before he came to Sarawak for Gawai, there was news of Bourdain’s new international food market in New York City.

This is what he said about what would be served in this amazing development: “We want you to be able to enjoy expertly sliced Iberico ham and some Cava or Kuching-style laksa [soup], Chinese lamb noodles, Vietnamese pho or a decent barbecue brisket all in one place.”

That’s right. Kuching Laksa will be sold at this new market. After seeing his post on various social media channels, I’m sure the fine diners of NYC can’t wait to get a taste of this dish of the ‘gods’.

I’m sure Bourdain will try his best to serve an authentic bowl. But my advice is come to Kuching. You will get the best here as he did.

And Anthony Bourdain, next time you come to Sarawak, let’s show you some Bidayuh, Orang Ulu and Melanau hospitality too.
